Louis-Simon BOIZOT (after) - Lot 159
Louis-Simon BOIZOT (after) Marble bust of Napoleon and its marble pedestal. Bust height (without pedestal): 34 cm. Total height: 44 cm. Wear, pedestal added. This bust of Bonaparte is a reproduction inspired by the work of French sculptor Louis-Simon Boizot (1743-1809). The original is on display at the Musée Carnavalet in Paris. This sculpture was created in 1803, and followed on from an almost similar work depicting General Bonaparte in 1798 with long hair. This bust depicts Bonaparte as First Consul in his double-breasted tunic and neck scarf. Louis-Simon Boizot produced numerous studies of Napoleon, mainly in bronze. He also participated in the creation of the Colonne Vendôme.
