Jean-Baptiste BASSOUL (1875-1934) - Lot 177
Jean-Baptiste BASSOUL (1875-1934) View of Nonza behind the church of Santa-Ghjulia, Corsica. Oil on canvas. 81 x 65.5 cm. On the reverse of the canvas, in oil and charcoal, a study of a village bell tower. A certificate of authenticity from Mr. Pierre-Claude GIANSILY will be given to the buyer. In 2008, the Bassoul family donated a set of ten sketchbooks to the Palais Fesch. Among them, a black pencil drawing depicts exactly the same view as the painting we are presenting (P.C. GIANSILY and P. PERFETTINI, Ajaccio Palais Fesch-Musée des Beaux-Arts, catalogs raisonnés des collections, Silvana Editoriale, 2009, p. 120 numbered 117 folio 8 recto). This suggests that it is a preparatory drawing for this painting. Provenance : - François Bassoul Collection, son of the artist. - Given by François Bassoul to the current owner.
