"Nous, Charles Philippe, fils de France, Frère du Roy, Comte - Lot 61
"Nous, Charles Philippe, fils de France, Frère du Roy, Comte d'Artois" - Military appointment under the Ancien Régime (1777) Certificate of appointment signed in Versailles on July 15, 1777 by "Charles Philippe" of France, Comte d'Artois, future King Charles X, who was then exercising military functions as Colonel-General of the Swiss and Grison regiments in the service of the kingdom, and by the ordinary secretary de Bournouville. Header printed with the words "Nous, Charles Philippe, fils de France, Frère du Roy, Comte d'Artois, Colonel-Général des Suisses et Grisons", The text certifies, "de l'agrément du Roy et en vertu du pouvoir que sa Majesté nous a donné", the appointment of Sieur Emer Peter, originally from Saint-Blaise, in the Principality of Neuchatel, to the position of Sous-Lieutenant in Le Maire's Company of the Swiss Regiment of Sonnenberg. This official appointment illustrates the importance of the Swiss regiments within the French army, which played a central role in protecting the monarch and the kingdom. Some ink stains and folds, stamp intact. 1 p., in-4° format. 1777.
