[BELLIN Jacques Nicolas] - Lot 8
[BELLIN Jacques Nicolas] Atlas de l'Isle de Corse by Sieur Bellin, Ingénieur de la Marine 1769. General map of the Isle of Corsica, divided by Provinces with cross-references to particular maps according to the figures below. 1 vol. in-4 bound in tiger-leather, spine with 4 nerfs decorated with gold flowers. Title page engraved with a trophy frame, double-page engraved index. Atlas comprising 38 engraved plates, 37 of which are province and town plans, including n°XXX in duplicate, as well as a general map of "L'isle de Corse divisée par Provinces suivant la carte réduit du S.B.", engraved by Croisey. However, the table of plates lists plates I to XXXV and does not mention the general map, plate VI bis and the second map n°XXX (map of the environs of Corte). The engravings consist of double pages (the general map, plates I to VIII, X to XIX, XXII to XXIV, XVII to XXIX and XXXIII to XXXV), single pages (XX, XXI, XXV, XXVI, XXXI, XXXII) and fold-out maps (IX, XXX). COMPLETE EDITION published shortly after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles (1768), by which Genoa renounced its sovereignty over Corsica in favor of France. Maps superbly fresh (minor restorations), some scuffing to binding.
