[MIOT André François, comte de Melito] - Lot 105
[MIOT André François, comte de Melito]
Without going into Miot's career, it should be remembered that he had a close relationship with Bonaparte, who entrusted him with his first mission in Corsica from December 1796 to the end of March 1797, just after the Republican Reconquest, in order to pacify the situation by removing those who dreamed only of revenge (Saliceti, Arena, etc.) after having been forced into exile in 1793.
This letter concerns Miot's second Corsican experience (1800-1802), during which he was to be the mastermind behind the famous decrees (March 1801). It is dated June 12, 1802, and addressed to "the general administrator of the Golo and Liamone departments", demonstrating the exceptional regime under which the island was governed.
