Letter signed by General Jean-Baptiste CERVONI (Soveria in C - Lot 106
Letter signed by General Jean-Baptiste CERVONI (Soveria in Corsica 1765- Eckmühl 1809) - 1801 (An IX) Handwritten letter dated 7 fructidor An IX (August 25, 1801), sent from the Marseille headquarters by Major General Jean-Baptiste Cervoni, then commander of the 8th Military Division. This document is addressed to citoyen Flat, captain of the 12th Light Brigade, based in Marseille. Fine printed letterhead centered on a Gorgon, illustrated with the arms of the French Republic, surmounted by a bundle of flags and military attributes and titled "République Française". In this letter, General Jean-Baptiste Cervoni, commander of the 8th Military Division, informs Captain Plat that he is to be replaced as a judge on the Bouches-du-Rhône Military Commission. In fact, his presence is deemed essential on the Board of Directors of his brigade's 2nd Battalion, of which he is a member. The general explained that it was easier to find a replacement for his position as judge than for his role on the Military Administration Board. Despite his superior's requests, Cervoni refused to exempt him and ordered him to go to Marseille. Jean-Baptiste Cervoni's handwritten signature concludes this correspondence, preceded by the phrase "je vous salue" ("I salute you"). Folds and stains. 1 p., in-4° format.
