[COMMISSION MINICIPALE DE BASTIA - 1830] - Lot 38
[COMMISSION MINICIPALE DE BASTIA - 1830] Rare Corsican revolutionary poster printed in Bastia the day after the "Trois Glorieuses" of July 1830. Signed by Mayor Antoine-Hyacinthe Lota. Printed on paper, divided into two parts laminated on paper. Addressed to the "Habitans de la Corse", this official text announces Bastia's rallying to the new power born of the Paris revolution, and celebrates the return of civil liberties and the tricolor flag. The document calls for calm, unity and respect for the law, while condemning despotism and political excesses. The municipality of Bastia affirms its support for national ideals and the National Guard, in a climate of patriotic enthusiasm marked by the final cry: "Long live France!" The text is signed by several Bastia notables, and bears direct witness to the spread of the revolutionary events of 1830 to Corsica. The piece is an interesting historical record of political life in Bastia at the start of the July Monarchy, and a rare document on the island's reception of events in Paris.
