19th-century Roman school, after Raffaello Sanzio, known as - Lot 120
19th-century Roman school, after Raffaello Sanzio, known as Raphael (1483-1520) Madonna of the Chair. Oil on canvas, tondo format. 19th century. 73 x 73 cm. In a circular gilded wood frame. Minor accidents. Elegant copy of one of Raphael's most famous compositions, dating from 1513-1514, preserved in Florence at the Pitti Palace (oil on panel, 71 cm., inv. 151). Provenance: Château de Canari (Cap Corse), Marcantetti family. The Château de Canari is the former home of the Cenci family. The full title of the Cenci de Canari was "Barons of Canari, Nonza and Ogliastro" since 1556. The Cenci family thus controlled three baronies. The last representative of the family to own Canari castle was Maria Vittoria Cenci, Marquise d'Albon, who was living in Rome at the time with her French husband. She sold the château to the Mattei family, who in turn sold the barony in 1880 to Toussaint Marcantetti, pharmacist in Bastia and mayor of Canari. His three children were born at the château.
